Why Foothill?

8th grade was coming to an end quickly. My family and I were trying to figure out what high school I was going to. We found that it would be Ventura High. Should I try to get into Foothill High?

All my friends were going to Ventura, so at first I wanted to go there. My sister Rachel tried getting in, and made it. After she went to Foothill for freshman year she found that she loved it. I wasn’t sure I wanted to go Foothill. Mainly because most my friends were going to Ventura. But my mom wanted me to try it. I didn’t do any research, but thought it was a good school from what my sister and family’s friends had said. So I tried getting in, and made it. My best friend Nick also tried getting in, and didn’t make it. I worried a little about who I would hang out with, and who my friends would be. Pretty soon I had nothing to worry about.

Orientation came quickly like fog covering my summer sunlight. I thought it would be a waste of time and be like all the other orientations I have been to. Were the principal says how nice it was to see us and explain common sense formally known as “rules”. But when I got to Foothill’s orientation it was different. It was kind of awkward dancing and playing Simon says but whatever. My fire leaders are nice. And my teachers seemed good. At orientation I recognized many people and knew their names. The people I knew out of the people I recognized I didn’t want to hang out with. I wanted new friends that would be there for me, and I for them. For almost the fist time it seemed like the teachers and staff actually cared if we liked school. Unlike the middle school attitude of your stuck here and if you don’t like it too bad make the best of it.

What is Foothill like for me now? I have found that I need to study more, but other than that all is good. I have a lot less homework than I thought I would. Witch is good and I hope that doesn’t change, although I’m sure it will. Some days I even have no homework at all. Witch is also good because then I get to ride my bike or skateboard. I don’t have much homework because I get it done as fast as I can. Just to get it over with and stay on top of things. Also to keep on top of things I use fire to get a lot of work done and out of the way. Friends wise I have met some pretty good ones. Even a few that will probably be my friends all through high school. I’m meeting new people every week almost every day, some nice, some helpful, and some just weird.

All my friendships are growing as I get to know everyone better. As far as school goes I have never liked it more than I do now. Well before I didn’t like it at all so I guess that doesn’t say much. But Foothill is my favorite school so far. And I’m grateful to be attending school here at Foothill High.
